Who We Are
Amplified Abilities was founded by Chattanooga native, Ally Smith, to serve a population near and dear to her family. Ally’s childhood was forever shaped by the time spent with her two profoundly Deaf grandparents, who used American Sign Language (ASL) as their means of communication. From an early age, Ally knew she wanted to find a profession where she could assist those affected by hearing loss.
While at the University of Georgia, she received a B.S. Ed in Communication Sciences and Disorders and took additional ASL classes. She was drawn to the speech-language pathology graduate school program at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Knoxville due their unique aural habilitation concentration program. It was here, she learned about modern amplification technologies (hearing aids/cochlear implants/bone anchored hearing aids) that allow families the opportunity to have a choice in communication modality when participating in appropriate intervention services at an early age.
Upon graduation, she immediately began the three year process to obtain certification as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Certified Auditory Verbal Therapist through the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language. Ally holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence through ASHA (national board accrediting SLPs) and state licensure through Tennessee and Georgia. She has experience providing intervention therapy services in private practice, outpatient, and school-based settings. Her unique clinical background has prepared her to work with children with a variety of speech/language disorders and developmental delays in addition to developing the communication skills of children with hearing loss. For those with hearing loss, therapy can be focused on developing listening and spoken language skills, ASL, or total communication.
Thank you for considering us as a member of your child’s intervention team. I look forward to the opportunity to assist you in maximizing the communication skills of your child.
Sincerely,
Ally Smith, M.S. CCC-SLP/LSLS Cert. AVT
